What this is

Sparrow is a studio for client work and applied engineering. It is the umbrella under which I take on projects for other companies — building systems, solving technical problems, and occasionally advising on architecture or process.

The name reflects the intent: small, focused, and deliberate. Not an agency in the traditional sense. Not a consultancy optimizing for billable hours. Just careful work for a limited number of clients.

Why it exists

I have spent most of my career as an employee, but some of the most interesting problems I have worked on came from helping friends and colleagues with their companies. Sparrow is an attempt to formalize that — to create a space where I can do applied engineering work outside of a full-time role.

I wanted a vehicle for client work that does not require pretending to be bigger than I am. One person, occasionally collaborating with others, working on projects that matter to the people commissioning them.

What problem it is trying to solve

Many companies need senior engineering help but do not need — or cannot afford — a full-time hire. They have a specific problem, a system that needs building, or a codebase that needs untangling. Traditional agencies often over-scope and under-deliver. Freelancers can be inconsistent.

Sparrow exists to offer an alternative: deep engagement on a small number of projects, with accountability and craftsmanship as the primary values.

Current state

Sparrow is currently a vision more than an active practice. I have done client work informally in the past, but I have not yet built a formal pipeline or public presence for it.

The structure is there. The capacity is not yet allocated.

How I think about its future

I intend to keep Sparrow intentionally small and selective. The goal is not to grow into an agency with employees and overhead. The goal is to maintain a space for meaningful client work without compromising the quality of attention I can give.

If Sparrow ever becomes a source of stress rather than interesting problems, I will scale it back or shut it down. It exists to serve good work, not the other way around.
